Panel Session #1 – Pensacola’s Burning Platform: Retaining Young Talent
Rick Outzen’s newspaper was founded in July 1999. He and his staff have won recognition for their investigative reporting, including being a finalist for the 2013 Sunshine State Awards. His coverage of a sensational double homicide murder case and BP Oil Spill for The Daily Beast garnered international attention. He has been profiled by The New York Times and featured on Dateline NBC and several documentaries on Investigation Discovery.
Outzen’s blog, Rick’s Blog, is considered one of Florida’s most influential political websites and considered a must-read for locals and those wanting to know what’s happening behind the scenes in Northwest Florida.
Last year, Rick took over as the host of WCOA’s morning show that was renamed “Real News with Rick Outzen.” In its first twelve months, he conducted over 1,100 interviews on local issues.
Rick also writes fiction. His novel “City of Grudges” debuted in March 2018 and was a finalist for Killer Nashville’s and the Florida Writers’ Association’s best mystery awards. His second novel, “Blood in the Water,” was released last year, and the third, “And the Murders Began,” is expected to be out next summer. All are based in Pensacola, Florida.
